No USB in List
No USB in List
Hey guys,
I write you because I have a (probably simple) problem.
I have the USB extension already installed, the USB Device is connected and viewed in my Ubuntu 1604. I clicked on USB-2.0-Controller because my device (garmin vivoactive) is a USB2 device. When I click on the button on the right with the green "+", there is no device shown in the list. It just says "no device available"...
See the screenshot...
Which step did I miss?

Re: No USB in List
With the USB device plugged in and the VM not running, post the output of the following commands:
VBoxManage list usbhost VBoxManage list usbfilters VBoxManage list extpacks VBoxManage showvminfo "Your_Virtual_Machine_Name"
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

Post the guests log file ( as an attachment ). Right click on the guest in the Main Manager then click show log. Save and post as an attachment. Compress if it is too large to post.

Oh, Ubuntu doesn't support the garmin device or does virtualbox on Ubuntu not support garmin?
I mean, Ubuntu shows the device as a USB drive and it's possible to write to the vivoactive via ubuntu...

Re: No USB in List
Lets try this a different way. We do not support the ubuntu fork of VirtualBox. If you remove it and install the official version from virtualbox.org along with the matching extension pack from virtualbox.org it should work. Don't forget to add your user name to the vboxusers group on the host and reboot.
Re: No USB in List
Okay, thanks PerryG!
I uninstalled the old version and installed version 5.1.14 r112924 (WT5.5.1)
but poorly nothing changed with the problem!

Re: No USB in List
First the file you just posted as the new log is in fact the same log you already posted, but that is not what I asked for. Open a terminal on the host and type id and post the results here.
Re: No USB in List
Hi,
perryG is not the only one seeing this problem. I am running Mint 18.1 and installed the last Oracle version 5.1.4r112924.
This used to run with the Ubuntu version used in Mint 17.3.
Best regards
Bernd
An interesting observation which may help: VBoxManage sees the devices when called with root privileges:

Re: No USB in List
i think it should work if you remove it and install the official version from virtualbox along with the matching extension pack.
