Hi,

I am running VirtualBox VM 5.1.6_Ubuntu r110634 linux.amd64 on a kubuntu 16.10 host with a nvidia graphic card and nvidia-375 driver installed.

A Win7-Program (DiaShow 10) always freezes at startup and locks the whole desktop. It can be killed with the Task Manager and afterwards I can go on working.
Afaik the program uses directx 3D to render video, could this be the problem?

5.1.6_Ubuntu is a fork, it is not VirtualBox. We don't support third party forks here. You should either look for support in the forkers forums, or install actual VirtualBox and see if you still have a problem. Remember to update the GAs also.
