[Solved] Setting up local network

Post by Simonno »

Hello smart people.

I have a server 2012 witch I try to setup a ubuntu vm on witch is connected to my local network and host.

It's been a long headache with several attempts. :)

I have tried:
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/ubuntu/c ... p-address/ Faults on restarting network
viewtopic.php?f=35&t=42385. Never get any connectivity.
and just setting the ip, netmask and gateway in the terminal to my lan setup.

By doing this manually i achieved getting connectivity between the host and guest, but nothing on the rest of the network. Although, i am not able to make this work anymore on any new snapshot, so i probably have done something i have forgotten also.

So at this point i feel more dumb and confused compared to before i started reading anything trying to solve this.

Thank you.

From the host, post the output of the commands:
  • VBoxManage showvminfo "<YourVM>"
    ipconfig /all
From the guest, post the output of the command:
  • ifconfig -a
But, first and foremost, try to change the network mode to Bridged, and change the Ubuntu setting not to a static IP, but to a dynamic (DHCP). That should place the VM as equivalent to other computers on your network, giving it access to your host and the rest of the computers.

PS. I fixed the URLs for you. I'm also moving it from "Windows Hosts" to "Linux guests", since that's where you seem to be having the trouble.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

I have tried dhcp, and static where i set static in /etc/network/interfaces, the dropdown from the top bar where i can edit my connection(don't know what it is called), and also the adapter in host. I also tried bridging ethernet and the host only adapter in the host. And also all the different things in combinations and separately just in case. In case it is important, my /etc/network/interfaces does not have any nic other than loopback if i do not edit it in myself.

Wow, i solved it.
Natural born idiot reporting in. I never even noticed it defaulted my ethernet to #2 in the vbox when i set it to bridged. That connection is unused. Just set it to the right ethernet (#1) and voila.

So sorry. Thank you for your time.
