How to change display/username/email on forum?

I'm not seeing any options in User Control Panel or Profile or anything... I'm afraid I'll lose my post history if I try to change one or register a new account.

The forum doesn't keep email information. You got here by signing up to an Oracle SSO account, so if your email address has changed then you should notify OSSO.

Your nickname on these forums can only be changed by an Admin (not a mod) - and ISTR they pretty much point blank refuse to do that unless you have an amazingly good reason.

Perhaps it would be simpler if you just re-registered on both services. I think the effect would be about the same.

Actually you don't need to re-register, you can change the settings from within the OSSO. I'm on the road without enough time on my hands, but you can definitely do it, I just need to find it. Or you could search for it. I'll try later tonight...

So if I change my email to an alternate on the Oracle SSO, register the original on a new account, then I can create another forum username? I think I'll lose history but that might be OK.

No, the nickname here is tied to your OSSO account, not the email address. You can tell OSSO about a change of email, but that will not affect your nickname here.

Is there some important reason why you need to change your forum nickname? If yes, then the only way I know would be to register a completely new OSSO profile and then use that to register as a new user here. We've had spammers do exactly this, so I know it's possible.

I don't think you're understanding; I don't want to use the username anymore (I think it's based on an old AOL account name which I don't have anymore), so I'm thinking of changing the email on the OSSO account (so the account will still be tied to this username but to the alt email), registering my original email with a new OSSO account, then registering a new forum account with that new OSSO so I can choose a more proper new username.

Right, that's what I had mentioned in the comment you just replied to.

The problem, again, is it seems like I'll lose the history of my posts (without any way to import them), unless I just search that username or log back into that previous OSSO account.

I believe I do understand. I responded to multiple scenarios because it wasn't clear to me which one you were talking about. The topic title still says that you want to change your forum user name and your email address. If all you want to do now is change some details in your OSSO profile then that actually has nothing to do with these forums. Just go to your OSSO account page.

It looks pretty clear to me, but I'm going to finally explain it for you:

Some forums have a display name AND a user (login) name AND an email for a user (I can't tell if this forum separates display name and user name), which is why my title says display/user/email.

I wanted to change all three. Some forums let me change all three.

You've already answered the issue enough in your previous replies, however the answer means with a new email (which means a new username and display name, which may be exactly the same thing), my forum history and details etc will not be on the new account.

So, this forum only allows changing email, but since I want a new display/user name, I will have to register a new account; I already realized that earlier, I'm just trying to point out now what the title of this thread meant.

Great! Now that you explained your question in full, and although the answer looked pretty clear to me, I'm going to finally explain it to you;

this is NOT the place to ask, you need to ask at the OSSO. VirtualBox forums "share" the credentials with the OSSO, does not have any control over them. Some forums may be flexible but Oracle's OSSO is not your typical login (and I believe they wouldn't lose their sleep over this). But, only Oracle can help you, VirtualBox users can't.

I believe we can finally close this, because we've been beating a dead horse to resurrection and back.

PS. Personally I wouldn't worry too much about my history if over 20% of it was just in this thread...

PS2. Several years ago an administrator of the forums had to change his own username (only). They vowed not to do it again unless somebody was dying and going to hell because of it. How do I know? I asked him to capitalize the first letter of my username...
