I've been experiencing two issues for quite some time now on an Ubuntu 16.04 host with several iterations of VirtualBox (4.x, 5.0.x, 5.1.x) and various Linux guest VMs:
1) Random corruption when reading files from a Shared Folder
2) Guest VM Lockups
I finally filed a bug about #1 (ticket #16329) and did some research on #2
Some tickets related to #2 (e.g #16107) suggested changed changing the para-virtualization type from "Default" (which would be KVM on a Linux VM) to "Minimal"
Since I did this I have not been able to recreate either issue (which is great news for me) but may mean there is something amiss with KVM on VirtualBox
Has anyone else experienced similar issues and found the same change resolves them?
Shared Folder read corruption / Random guest VM freezes
Re: Shared Folder read corruption / Random guest VM freezes
Shucks, spoke too soon. I've had another read error.
But at least the VM hasn't frozen up yet!

Re: Shared Folder read corruption / Random guest VM freezes
I never have shared folder issues and it may be because I never use the automount feature. I tested it when it first came out and found it unreliable. Maybe you should remove the automount share and create a permanent share instead. You can make the mount permanent in the guest instead.
