Win 10 machine running Win XP connecting to Win Server2003

Post by Brian_Atl25 »

Hi Guys,
new to virtualbox, At my work we have an old accounting system that manages inventory, it runs on Win XP, we have not updated this in a loooong time, it would cost $40k to do so. We are updating systems as the old computers a brutally slow. I bought a windows 10 machine and put a windows Xp virtual box on it.
The problem I have now is connecting either one to a wired shared network, it is on a Windows 2003 PC, this PC contains all the required credentials to run our inventory management software. It is more or less a visible number of drives that are partitioned and contain files and info.
I did not set up this network and there is very little tech people here. Anyone have any advice on how to get this connection visible from 1 or both parts of my new computer? (win10 + win XP)
Any help is greatly appreciated, hoping its lack of knowledge and I'm just missing an easy step.
Thanks in advance

It might be old, but Windows 2003 is still in service in a lot of places and uses the same networking protocols as modern machines. All you need to do is plug your Windows 10 machine into the same network as the server.

If you want the XP vm to see the server, change its network setting from NAT to bridged. If the server is a domain controller (as your post suggests) the XP vm should get its network configuration automatically. Any problems you have after that should be Windows questions, not VirtualBox questions.

If you cannot get a network connection, post back with full details of what you have done.
