[solved]VM does not start after upgrade to 5.1.10 from 5.0.28

Hi,

I just upgraded to the latest VB version using th generic Linux installer (VirtualBox-5.1.10-112026-Linux_amd64.run), then automatically downloaded and installed the ext pack, but when I try to start a VM, I get the following error message:
RTR3InitEx failed with rc=-1912 (rc=-1912)

The VirtualBox kernel modules do not match this version of VirtualBox. The installation of VirtualBox was apparently not successful. Executing

'/sbin/vboxconfig'

may correct this. Make sure that you do not mix the OSE version and the PUEL version of VirtualBox.

where: supR3HardenedMainInitRuntime what: 4 VERR_VM_DRIVER_VERSION_MISMATCH (-1912) - The installed support driver doesn't match the version of the user.
A second message box has a "details" button which gives me that:
The virtual machine 'Win7bis' has terminated unexpectedly during startup with exit code 1 (0x1).

Código Resultado: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Componente: MachineWrap
Interfaz: IMachine {b2547866-a0a1-4391-8b86-6952d82efaa0}
Running /sbin/vboxconfig tells that is building the vbox driver, but does not solve the issue. Also, when running the VBox installer there is no message about driver building.

I am attaching the install log (/var/log/vbox-install.log). There is no log of the failed VM.

Regards

Code: Select all

Make sure that you do not mix the OSE version and the PUEL version of VirtualBox.
You usually get this when you have been running the distro fork and try to install the official release without removing the fork first. Try removing VirtualBox, reboot to make sure the modules are cleared, and then install again.

Hi Perryg,

Thanks, uninstall, restart and install did the trick. However, I have been using the "*.run" installers since 4.x; 5.0.28 was installed that way, and reinstalled successfully after 5.1 failed.
