I'm finding it very hard to understand your post. Do I understand you tried to install a Realtek audio driver in a VM? That obviously won't work, as RealTek is not one of the audio simulations offered by VirtualBox. Your choices are SB16, AC'97, and Intel HD Audio. In fact you shouldn't need to install any drivers, as the guest OS has native support, provided you didn't change the audio chipset type selected by the template.

The host is more or less irrelevant, but if you meant to say XP guest instead of host then AC'97 is the correct choice.

VirtualBox provides a VIRTUAL MACHINE to the guest OS. That means that every piece of hardware which the guest sees directly, is a simulation. It is not your real hardware. The only exception is the CPU, as guest code runs natively on the host CPU.

The VM settings control the "recipe" of the virtual machine. In the audio section you'll find the options available to you for sound hardware in the guest - I already listed the options in my previous post. You'll see that realtek is not among them, and nor is it relevant that a different PC (your host) may have RealTek audio.

It isn't a matter of supporting or not supporting host realtek audio. It's your host OS which has to support realtek: your host applications (including VirtualBox) just use the host OS audio API. Those apps don't know or care what chipset your soundcard uses.

Hopefully you now understand why installing RealTek audio drivers in a guest OS is not a useful thing to do.
