VBoxLinuxAdditions.run Not Exist in the CD File

Hi Gurus,

I need your kindest help on installing VirtualBox Guest Additions.

Running latest 5.1.8 on Windows 10 and extensions installed as well. Clicked the "Insert Guest Additions CD Image" and the CD is mounted to /opt/VBoxGuestAdditions-4.2.18. But the VBoxLinuxAdditions.run file does not exist in there, any directories.

Where shall I download the correct guest additions CD image (my current is the seeded from 5.1.8)? Or can you point to the direction where I did something wrong?

Many thanks in advance.

Hutu

So, is Windows 10 your host or your guest? Why did you post in Linux hosts?

That doesn't make sense. You didn't follow the instructions somehow...

Hello Socratis,

Thanks for the prompt reply. Sorry for posting in the wrong group.

The /opt/VBoxGuestAdditions-4.2.18 is from the this VirtualBox 5.1.8. Not sure they are supposed to be name the same version number.

Thanks!

Moving to "Linux Guests" from "Linux Hosts".

See http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch04.html#idm1784 for instruction on installing the guest additions

You use the device tab to insert the guest additions and then run from a terminal. They are not present on the guest until you install them so the folder you post shows you have an older version installed and you really need to remove them first, especially if they were from the distro to begin with to prevent conflicts.
