Hey there !

Today i installed VirtualBox. Since a few months i wanted to test Kali Linux, so i downloaded the prebuild ova file from their site and binded it to VB.
It started normally and all went fine. First i tested the the connection. It worked seemless using NAT. The i looked for my ip adress.... it was 10.0.2.15.
That is very weierd, because normally my ip is something like 192.168.... So why do i get 10.0.2.15 ? And can i still test the security tools with that ip ? Like scanning the network ?
I googled a bit and found some threads about that ip. They told me if i wanna have a normal ip adress i should use briged network mode instead.... Ya alright. So i changed the network mode
and relauchned the OS again. First i checked the ip. This time it was 192.168 .... I thought it was all good for now, till i wanted to google something. I noticed the internet doesnt work again. But why ? And how do i get a normal adress while also
be able to use the internet ?

From your Kali guest, open a terminal and post the output of:
  • ifconfig -a
And a couple of things:
  1. You don't need to hide addresses in a private network, there is no point. In fact if you do, that would be the end of the discussion. At least on my side.
  2. If you're using Kali to try to do any network testing with wireless, it will not work. The (Kali) guest only sees a wired connection.
  3. Bridged and wireless don't always play nice. Bridged networking is outside the WLAN specification. It may or may not work. Some combinations of Routers/Access Points, WLAN cards and drivers work, some don't. See: Bridging & Wifi - Supported hardware and add your experience.
