I assume that POS means "Point Of Sale" is isn't a comment about software quality... 
The easiest way to use a printer in a VM is to install the driver on the host, and then share it on a network which both the host and the VM can access (so, either Bridged or Host-Only networking).
This means that you never needed to involve LPT; with a shared printer its makes no difference how the device is physically connected to the first stop in the network. About the only semi-valid reason for a VM grabbing direct ownership of a printer is that you don't have drivers for the host: but in this case Win7 is both host and guest so that shouldn't be a problem.
