Bridged Network stopped working

Post by Darxide23 »

I've got a Windows XP guest running on Windows 7 host. I had it configured to use a Bridged Adapter to my host PCs network adapter. It was using the PCnet-FAST III adapter, promiscuous mode Deny. This worked with no problems for months on end. Then I stopped using this guest for a couple of months and I started it back up again a few days ago and was not getting any network connectivity. The guest OS would inform me that it was acquiring a network address for a time before informing me that I had limited network connectivity. In other words, no internet connection.

As I've said, I used to use this particular VM very regularly with no problems and I shut it down one day in August and didn't pick it back up until the end of October. It worked when I last used it and now it doesn't. I've screwed around with the settings endlessly over the last couple days, but I cannot get it to work.

Absolutely nothing has changed on my physical PC nor on the Host OS. My home network is also unchanged from the last time I used the Virtual Machine. Does anyone have any idea what's going on or how I might go about fixing this? I've Googled and searched the forums here for answers, but much of it is either irrelevant to my situation or did not help. The guest OS is configured to obtain IP automatically, so there isn't any sort of conflict with static IP addresses.

Thanks.

With the VM shut down completely (not paused or saved), right-click on the VirtualBox Manager and select Show Log. Save it (just the first one), ZIP it and attach it in your response (see the "Upload attachment" at the bottom of the form).
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

Everything looks fine. Here are the relevant parts, that even show some sent/received traffic:

From the command prompt on the guest, post the output of the command:
  • ipconfig /a
The only thing that I don't like is that you have it bridged to a wireless adapter. Bridged and wireless don't always play nice. Bridged networking is outside the WLAN specification. It may or may not work. Some combinations of Routers/Access Points, WLAN cards and drivers work, some don't. See: Bridging & Wifi - Supported hardware.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.

As I said, I've used it prior and used it heavily and it worked just fine. Nothing has changed except that it stopped working. The router is on a different floor of the house, it's impossible to use anything other than wireless.

Please do not reply just to the half part of the message. And since I had to reply to remind you to post the output of the command I gave you, please post the output of another command:
  • ping 8.8.8.8
