guest usb

Post by jamiahersht »

hello folks!

I'm always have played with virtualbox, kali linux and a wireless adapter. But last version ( 5.1.8 ) of virtualbox got some bug. I got installed linux as host and kali linux as guest and trying to use the atheros wireless adapter (tplink). I've found some topics talking on this issue though any got it solved. How do I achieve to get usb devices on guest machine ( as said Vbox 5.1.8 )?

All the best. :P

What's the bug? And is it only in VirtualBox 5.1.8? Or have you seen it before? Please read:Minimum information needed for assistance.

There are several topics on using a USB adapter with Kali on these forums, have you searched for an answer? Search for "Kali USB wireless site:forums.virtualbox.org".

socratis,

I've seen at least 15 threads at that matter: usb device / adapter. Sorry, there has been some policy in Oracle not to allow usb devices on guest machines kkkk. Continuing, any of that 15 got that solved. Whats the matter after all with usb devices , once former versions didn't get this issue?kkk Nevertheless very much appreciated your reply. Perhaps It gets something related on privileges. kkk

I wouldn't know. I'm not with Oracle.

Not that I know of. I'm a standard/simple user on my computer and I've never run into privileges problems. I'm not quite sure what you're talking about. If you could rephrase the question perhaps?

Since I remember, I could always install Vbox on windows and make one Kali Linux guest and got all working just fine. By a certain period ago, have changed to Linux (Gnome), in a nutshell, decided not to install windows 10 any more. :P All right, the problem comes when I wanted to make a kali linux (just like before, but instead of windows 7 , Gnome) guest machine and had no luck with usb adapter: Any usb device won't to show up it self at all. :P

Did you already use Linux as host and go well?

Thank you ! :D

Did you read the manual? Chapter 3.10.2 Implementation notes for Windows and Linux hosts. Especially that you have to be a member of the 'vboxusers' group?

Hello again!

Socratis, You were right. There aren't any bug on Vbox 5.1.8 partner. Thank you very much for your help. The installation of Vbox has done, a shortcut on applicaton menu without root. I had just to execute the program from a terminal window with root and got all that stuff!! Beside this, without the link you have posted, it was no possible or much more complicated to figure out. kkk

bye all.

You shouldn't have to be as root. That's a bad decision. Did you add yourself to the 'vboxusers' group as I told you before?
