Win95/DOS - No Audio with 3rd party games

Hello Everyone!

I'm hoping to get some feedback about an audio issue I ran into while testing a Win95/DOS VM. The SoundBlaster emulation appears to only work with 1st party games. I found that if I install a 3rd party game the sound card is not detected. Forgive me if this question has already been answered, but I've searched all over the place and cannot find out what the deal is. If you have any insight to this please let me know.

FY_ I have attempted to manually install the drivers on the VM's OS as well, re run the Add New Hardware Wizard in Win95, but still can only get audio from the 1st party games that are pre installed with Win95. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

- Marshal

Naive question, but what's a 1st party game and a 3rd party game? Do you mean the built-in ones vs. another application that doesn't come with Windows? If so, do you have specifics? Which app would that be?

There could be a couple points to consider in the Wikipedia article on Windows 95, Dependency on MS-DOS section. In my first-time-early-morning reading I seem to infer that if the game being loaded was DOS-based, and it wasn't launched from within 95 DOS prompt, DOS drivers for sound might be needed. I may be wrong, and 95 was a long time ago....
