I used to use Genymotion for using an Android phone (Samsung Galaxy S5).
After a year or so of ignoring it, I tried to use it today, to find out that it didn't work.
A quick search lead me to find that Genymotion now requires payment to use, so I went to another alternative I found out about recently: VirtualBox, which, as of yet, I have no idea how to use, but that's alright, I'll figure it out.
I installed VirtualBox and wow, it turns out, the S5 OS is still on my computer and is even registered in VirtualBox!
Naturally, I tried to boot it up, and it told me that a network connection was missing. After adding the proper connection, I tried again. It booted up as I remember, but with nothing in its memory, as to be expected (I suppose).
Once in, I tried to click - Capture mouse input. Okay. Right control is the key, I'll let it capture.
The mouse disappeared. Well, I have Ctrl->show mouse location on, so I hit LControl. It shows me where the mouse is, and I can move it, but the mouse is still gone and isn't inputting anything to the phone.
I tried the Input->Mouse integration setting at the top, but that is grayed out and I can't click on it.
Any ideas on what to do?
Also, while we're at it, how do I make sure that its data is saved? I want it to be like an actual phone, but on my computer. If it is automatically saved, that is all I need to know for that.
Thank you!

That is a bit confusing. The Android phone OS will not run in a VirtualBox vm - it is the wrong "hardware" (ARM processor not x86). The Android x86 emulator will run (although it is not supported). Can you recall exactly what you installed in this vm?
If all else fails, try a clean install of the Android x86 emulator. http://www.android-x86.org/

And it's not true, that genymotion requires payment to use, for personal use it's free to use, only need registeration.
