I installed VirtualBox 5.1.6 on OS X 10.11.6. it was working perfectly until today.
I start the machine and got the following message:

Failed to acquire the VirtualBox COM object.
The application will now terminate.

Any idea. The only this changed since the last time I ran is. I attached a WDMyCloud external drive and start the time machine for back up.

I try to reinstall the virtual box it fails at the final step.

after viewing other messages related to my problem. I remembered that I have issue with JVA and was getting constantly a notification that I should install it. Even after doing that still I was getting the warning message. So I called Apple and their Genius IT guy told me to do some setting on the security of my OPS and Safari.
So I decided to install the OSX 10.12 on cleaned HD.
Everything works fine now.

I encountered the same issue after upgrading from Vbox 4.x to 5.x. Logs attached.

The permissions in 10.12 are not fixable. So, a) you don't have the same problem and b) I don't know what to do to fix it, except an archive and re-install.
