CDRW Support for Guest OS?

Post by Shrek »

Does Virtualbox support CDRW?

I have found VirtualBox so useful that my official personal PC is a Ubuntu 7 Guest on a my work Dell Latitude D610 which runs Windows XP. I refer to it as parasitic computing as I don't personally own a machine anymore, I have a 300GB external USB HDD, all I need is a good host.

I was surprised when I was unable to erase a CDRW from the Guest machine and after looking around and thinking about it, I realized that Virualbox appears to report the CDRW as a generic CDROM possibly implying that it does not support writable CD players. I further confirmed this when I was unable to erase the CDRW from a Windows XP Guest on the same host but was able to erase the same CDRW directly from the host.

I searched the message forum, looked about on the net but can't find a conclusive answer. Does VirtualBox 1.4.0 (With Additions) support writing to removable media from a guest OS?
