I installed Virtualbox with VBoxWebsrv and had some luck. I could create a VM using the web GUI but when I tried to start the VM I got errors and it wouldn't work.
I attempted to uninstall everything to try it again, but now I have come up with a problem. No end of searching and trawling through possible solutions has worked, so now I am requesting some help.
When I run "sudo apt remove --purge virtualbox-5.1" I get a pink window come up saying I have running VMs. I do not have any running. I have no vbox related processes running and I have rebooted.
Also, when I run VBoxHeadless I get a flood of text on the terminal relating to kernel modules not being installed. "sudo /sbin/vboxconfig" says "no command found". I have removed the vbox user and vbox group including home directory. I have deleted phpvbox directory from the webroot.
I have tried to run "sudo ps aux | grep vboxsvc" but I think there is something wrong with this command on my system as if I search for any word it comes up saying the process is running with that word. For example:
parsons 8732 0.0 0.0 12948 928 pts/0 S+ 20:33 0:00 grep --color=auto vboxsvc
parsons 9366 0.0 0.0 12948 944 pts/0 S+ 20:34 0:00 grep --color=auto kitchen
I'm not sure what's happening there
"ps -A" doesn't show any virtualbox processes running, however.
If I try to reinstall virtualbox I still get the pink window saying VMs are running. I am seriously stuck now and don't know how to proceed. I am not a Linux/Ubuntu expert, but I know the basics, so I apologies if this is a really obvious fix.
