Running virtualbox over a VNC connection

I'm attempting to run a VirtualBox guest over a VNC connection to a Linux host (xfce4 desktop). After completing the Windows 7 splash screen, the guest session aborts. When logged directly into the host system (no VNC), the guest boots up without issue. I'm attaching the virtualbox .log file, as well as the VNC xstartup that is curently used. Any ideas or insight much appreciated!

Please create a bug report<1> for this, attaching the log file after a crash and try to get a core dump<2> and if possible make it available for upload somewhere. Thanks!

Thanks, Michael. I've created ticket # 16070 and uploaded a core dump file to the following location:

Interestingly, I discovered that I'm able to start the vm in headless mode remotely, and then make use of the RDP emulation built in to Virtualbox. So it's got to be something to do with the vm / VNC display settings not playing nicely together?

I second this glitch. Temporary solved by downgrading to VirtualBox 5.0.26.

5.1.0 and later gives same problem.
Host runs fresh Debian Jessie with xfce4 and tightvncserver.
Windows 7 x64 install from attached ISO goes well. Problem exist only when installed Windows starts from (virtual) HDD.

I also confirm that this issue is not present if VirtualBox is downgraded to v5.0.28.
