I'm having exactly the same problem. I hope you don't mind my piggybacking onto this thread. I have host Linux Slackware 64 14.2 and guest VM Windows 7. Both are up-to-date. I'm running VirtualBox 5.1.6. r110634. I have guest extensions installed. My Linux desktop is running KDE and is in folder mode showing the desktop files, one of which is md5sums.exe -- a Windows md5sum executable. I followed the instructions in https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/DnDDebug to set VBOX_RELEASE_LOG=guest_dnd.e.l.l2.l3.f. I tried dragging from the Linux/KDE desktop to the VM desktop. I've attached the log as request. I've also tried copy/paste of simple text and that doesn't work either. I didn't include that test in this log.
Thanks

Actually I doMarkFoley wrote:I hope you don't mind my piggybacking onto this thread.
You do not have the Guest Additions (GA) installed in the guest. User Manual, Chapter 4.2.1. Guest Additions for Windows.

Re: Unable to copy & paste text from host to guest
Sorry man! I'm a bit dysfunctional with this forum it seems. Adding the guest additions did the trick. I didn't realize that the guest additions and Vbox extensions were different things.

Re: Unable to copy & paste text from host to guest
- The Extension Pack get installed on the host and it has to match the VirtualBox version.
- The Guest Additions get installed on the guest and it would be good to match the VirtualBox version.
