Hi.
I've got an XP guest on a linux host.
I'm running vbox 1.6.2

I'd like to extend the storage of my guest.
I figured I could do that by creating a new vdi, and attaching it
to the guest virtual machine.

I did so.

Alas, the guest OS seem to recognmse new disk space:
If I go to "my computer" in XP, it doesn't see a new drive.

How can I make the guest aware of this new resource?

Or, am I going about things the wrong way?

The way I understand it, a new attached vdi can be used by the guest OS for storage. Is this correct?

You'd have the same problem is you attached a real disk to a real OS. Control Panel->Administration Tools->Computer Management->Storage->Disk Management. Create a partition, format it and give it a drive letter. Reboot and then you'll see it in My Computer.

Nothing to do with VBox, but you can have this one gratis.

you are teaching me something new about windows here.

i've found the mangament interface for new disks, and i can see the added disk space.

trouble is, i can't figure out how to create a partition and format it.
in computer managment, if i right click on disk managment, the option to create a nwe partition is greyed out.

where do i go from here ?

got it

the windows way of doing things confuzzles me a bit sometimes.
but, i now have it sorted.

i have new disk space

notice how all my text is in lower case
this is because switching between my host os and vmware workstation mussed up my keyboard mappings.
this doesn't seem to happen when i'm switching between my host and virtualbox.
