This is definitely NOT the same issue. Please open a new thread with an appropriate, specific title. Most of the people coming in the forums have some sort of issue. "Help" is not a good choice for a title . Do not piggyback on another user's thread. It makes it harder for future searchers...

Hello everyone.

I had the same problem, guest additions not working on Windows 7 as a guest on a Windows 7 Host with VB 5.1.8 and Guest Additions also 5.1.8, the latest stable releases.

Vboxtray.exe and vboxservice.exe were running. I tried restarting the service and the vboxtray and still nothing.

I uninstalled Guest Additions, reboot and I have deleted every *vbox* file I could find, even on driverrepository, reboot, reinstall as admin, still nothing.

Finally the solution was to download the previous iso from the testbuilds webpage, the file name is VBoxGuestAdditions_5.0.29-111427.iso.

The forum does not let me post urls but try inserting the dots in the two spaces: www virtualbox org/download/testcase/VBoxGuestAdditions_5.0.29-111427.iso

start the virtual machine, go to top left menu Devices then Optical Drives and then Choose disk image... and select the VBoxGuestAdditions_5.0.29-111427.iso

Install it and after reboot everything was working, shared folders, clibpboard, auto resolution.

I hope this helps someone as I have been helped in the past from the kind people on this forum.

The version that you downloaded is NOT the previous version. It is an intermediate version between 5.0.28 (the latest release as of this writing) and the next release 5.0.30, hence the .29 (odd) version. The build for 5.0.28 is 111378. The one you downloaded is 111427, which is a later build. It may or may not fix things, although it usually does, like in your case.

Finally there is no reason to link to a specific test build, as they expire and new ones are coming in. For example as of this writing, the newest test build is NOT 111427, but 111443. The best way would be to say "builds greater than 111427" and link to the test builds page: https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Testbuilds

While I understand your technical objections and respect your contributions to this forum, the style in which you write is why ordinary people steer away from technical people.

You could have just written: Please link to the test builds webpage as builds change frequently and your link will expire soon. Also, the 5.0.29 is an intermediate version version, the exact previous version is 5.0.28.

Simple and to the point.

All the rest is just filler words.

Please do not view this post as accusation or flaming but as a friendly notice about how almost always simpler is better.

If it bothers you, you can delete it as is.

But you have to include the technical details sometimes (for example that the odd versions are not release versions) because at least a few people are going to remember that. I hope...

If I wanted filler words I'd start with "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..."

I agree that you have to include the details sometimes hoping that someone learns from them, on the other hand too much details and their mind wanders off and you lose them .
