Host: Windows 10.0.14393
Guest: Windows 10.0.14393 with insider preview (fast ring) enabled
Virtualbox 5.1.6 r110634
When I want to update my VM to the latest insider preview release (which is now Windows 10 Insider Preview 14936) somewhere in the update process there is a very quick blue screen, then a restart of the VM and then the update process reverts to the latest (regular) OS. Due to the roll back it is not possible to see any information about the failure.
1. Does anybody else observe the same issue?
2. And does anyone know how to resolve this? I cannot join the fast ring anymore, due to this error.
Little piece of history: I was previously updating in the fast ring without any problems (already for many months), until it was stuck at some build (no update was coming in anymore, even after Microsoft released several nieuw insider builds). I did a full refresh of Windows 10, which brought me to its current version (10.0.14393).
Windows 10 VM doesn't update to latest Insider Preview Build (crash during update causes rollback)

Honestly now, you didn't even take a look at the titles of the threads, did you?
Start with Windows 10 Anniversary Update Broke VirtualBox? in the forum that you posted. Also take a look at another sub-forum: VirtualBox on Windows pre-releases at the top of the forum that you posted.
Please continue the discussion in one of these two. I would suggest the first one. But, don't trust me; do your homework first.
| Edit: Please ignore the previous advice. I was mistakenly thinking that the OP was trying to upgrade the host, not the guest. See two posts later for the more appropriate redirection. |

I suspect that this update is being attempted inside the guest, not on the host.Helsie wrote:I want to update my VM to the latest insider preview release
Am I right that the "W10 anniversary Update broke VB" and Pre-releases links are about Windows hosts?
Helsie, you report this:
From this I deduce that the Virtualbox "hardware" for your guest is running correctly and that you will have to solve this problem as if you are attempting the fast-ring update on a stand-alone physical PC. Just pretend you are running a real PC and troubleshoot with Microsoft. That will probably get you going.somewhere in the update process there is a very quick blue screen, then a restart of the VM and then the update process reverts to the latest (regular) OS

Oops, you're right, I think I read that too fast. Sorry for the confusion...scottgus1 wrote:I suspect that this update is being attempted inside the guest, not on the host. Am I right that the "W10 anniversary Update broke VB" and Pre-releases links are about Windows hosts?
In that case the appropriate thread would be: Windows 10 Insider Preview Upgrade to 14926 fails (don't let the version number distract you) seems to be the more appropriate one.
Users have reported success when messing with the 3D options. Take a look at it.
Moving to "Windows Guests" from "Windows Hosts" to avoid confusion. Mine primarily
