USB on Vbox

Post by dwarsligger »

I looked at messages on the forum about : USB flash drive not detected by VirtualBox
first fact usb keyboard and usb mouse are not affected by any USB issues either at the host or the guests as described below

a- in my oringal setup 14.04 lts + Vbox 5.0.24 I had definitions of USB devices headphones, printers etc
b- i have 2 guests a linux 14.04 and WiN7 , in neither USB devices were usable
c- in my WIN7 guest the USB simulated hardware is unrecognised and any likely divers such as generic, standard, microsoft or even a Intel driver compatible with the emulated PCI bus didn generate a working USB setup ( which is why i wanted to move to 5.1.6 , which is currently not working )

there is a work around for USB flash drives that is to define them in shared folders but that is not really a workable setup unless one uses only 1 flashdrive

Do you have matching extension pack installed and is your user name in the vboxusers group on the host?
Provide a guest log so we can verify and type id in the host terminal and post that as well.

Also if trying to use USB 3 make sure you have install the Intel drivers in the Windows 7 guest as Win-7 does not have native support for USB 3

Does this bring back a working version?
Since you are running the distro fork of VirtualBox you now need to ask them for support if you want to continue using their build.
