Post by will »

I keep getting this error when i try to run puppylinux on a virual machine -

VirtualBox kernel driver not installed. The vboxdrv kernel module was either not loaded or /dev/vboxdrv was not created for some reason. Please install the virtualbox-ose-modules package for your kernel, e.g. virtualbox-ose-modules-generic..
VBox status code: -1908 (VERR_VM_DRIVER_NOT_INSTALLED).

Result Code:
0x80004005
Component:
Console
Interface:
IConsole {1dea5c4b-0753-4193-b909-22330f64ec45}

I deleted and reinstalled virtual box to see if that was maby the problem. Im running ubuntu 8.04.1. Any ideas?.

You may be new, but i zhink you can read. There is a hint in the message to install a package. Have you done this?

Yes its quite clear i can read.

It asks me to install a package that is correct, but where do i find that package? there is no url no hint no nothing of where i would find it. I have already searched the ubuntu package manager several times to see if there is anything there i have missed plus tried the sudo /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup code which doesnt even run.

OK, other way. Delete that crappy package, install the version from the vbox homepage.

But please please read before the user manual. There are several hints for packages that must be installed.

This must not be written again and again.

That is what Stefan means by reading. Even though the Forum Search sucks, there is always an alternative.
