Windows 8.1 "no audio devices are installed" for recording

Hi,
I like to use my headset (physical onboard sound, no USB) in the VM for presentation, but the Windows 8.1 x64 guest is always saying "no audio devices are installed" on the recording tab of audio preferences. Playback is working fine.
On my Linux host, I tried with PulseAudio and ALSO. Both host options working fine for output, but no change on the Windows guest. Still no recording (which is fine on Linux host).
I tried to switch the simulated audio controller to Soundblaster 16, but Windows does not even start like this. For ICH AC97, Windows is missing drivers. I tried to find some, but with no success. Every driver I found seems the wrong one as Windows saying it does not fit to hardware or it does not run (ec 28).
How do I get recording running on my Virtualbox Windows 8.1 guest?
