Full screen problems

Post by johnedoe23 »

Hello everybody, I'm running Debian 8.5 and VirtualBox 5.1.6 and I the only guest machine I can use fullscreen mode is a Windows XP one.
Here's a screenshot of what it looks like when i press Host + F to go into fullscreen mode ( Not sure how to describe this )

Any help is appreciated !

Post images here as an attachment. I and most here will not go to outside links.

Better yet post the guest log file here ( as an attachment )

I hope it isn't a problem I've compressed it ( it's too big to upload here, the maximum is 128kb )

Other than the screen shows Debian and the logs say it is xubuntu I don't really see an issue. What do you think is missing?

Hmm I don't really have an ideea. It could be something that I've missed when configuring the VM. I have a Windows XP one fullscreen works correctly. But I couldn't find a difference between that one and the ones that aren't "working".
I've discovered that if I go to fullscreen and then press Alt + F fullscreen works, but it shows my host background in the middle of it ( here's a screenshot of that too )
Sorry but I'm a total noob at virtual machines.

Enable 3D acceleration in the guest settings and try again. By the way had you shown this screen shot instead of the first one it would have depicted the issue better.

Not according to the log you posted. Let's see the /var/log/vboxadd-install.log from the guest.

This could be a compiz issue. Try disabling the 3D and see if it works.

Don't know what else to tell you. The logs don't show VirtualBox seeing the opengl of the host so it does not initiate the 3D. Looking at the vboxadd-install.log shows everything compiling properly the best I can tell. You could try installing the additions again and this time capture the terminal screen to see if there is an error that is produced.

I just tried changing my Desktop Environment on my host machine from i3 to KDE to see if that would make a difference. Turns out it did. It ran perfectly with fullscreen using KDE..
This however doesn't explain why my Windows XP virtual machine is working tho.
