[GENTOO] compiled ver 5.1.6: VT-x issue, while bin is ok

Host: Gentoo 64 bit (freshly updated), systemd
Guest: any 32bit, e.g. Windows7, XP, freeDOS
VirtualBox: when downloaded from Oracle binary version:
"All distributions (built on EL5 and therefore do not require recent system libraries) AMD64"
then it runs without any issue so far,
HOWEVER,
when compiled from Gentoo's Portage then it keeps refusing to run any type of guests (32 bit) with the famous error complaint:
"VERR_VMX_NO_VMX"
Tried many various settings for guests, of course the latest extensions, host's many kernel configurations - however why if at the same environments the binary VirtualBox runs smoothly

That would be a question for the Gentoo forums. In any event if you installed that and looked for help, we'd direct you to install the official version from Oracle. Like you did and it works.

Yes, but you support many Linux distros, providing installation packets intended exclusively for them, so, why not Gentoo as such serious and highly professional system?

I don't know, I'm a simple user, just like you. These decisions are not made here. But I can understand the logic of only supporting 2 or 3 major distros. And as far as I can tell, VirtualBox *is* working since you managed to install it just fine by using the generic installation, right? Try to ask the Gentoo forums why they change the defaults and break the installation.

Please keep in mind the generic installation is much less optimized than any compiled one with use flags on such distros like Gentoo, Funtoo, BSD

What is Gentoo forum response:
The fact that virtualbox is under the GPL-2 licence and virtualbox-bin is under both the GPL-2 and the PUEL licences have the consequence that the features under PUEL in virtualbox are disabled in Portage
In other words, GPL license VirtualBox software version has unovercome bug with which none tends to do anything.

You only have two options.
Install the portage version and get your help from Gentoo, or Install the official version and get help here. No amount of arguing will change this, sorry.

The attitude is annoying the more the mischievous error complaint of VirtualBox about "missing VT-x hardware feature" already has rich report story, try to put it into Google search to see how many times it occurred in previous software versions, also official binary ones and also for Windows.
So it seems unfair claiming you know nothing just because someone else compiled your sources.

Dude no one cares. We do not have any say over what DEVs or Oracle does or does not do. Ask the DEVs or Oracle your questions or let it go. Fretting over this here will just give you a stroke, relax. Or you can do what I do and just build your own. Get the source (
http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualb ... .6.tar.bz2 or from SVN which I prefer ) and have at it.

Have you really built it yourself? How many hours has it taken?
However, is the sources from your link the same as Gentoo Portage downloads it or it is just the issue in question, concerning licences?

The compile time depends on the horse power of the PC. I usually get builds done in 5 minutes but I have a beefy machine. Since I don't use portage I can't tell you how or what to do. You will need to ask them about the necessary packages to build external modules but it is all doable. This should help
https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Build_instructions . Gentoo probably is close enough to BSD to get started.
