Windows 2008 R2 - Hyper-V Role cannot be installed

Hi All,

My Host Operating system is Yosemite 10.10.5 on a MacBook Pro 15 inch mid-2012, 2.3GHz Intel Core i7, 16GB DDR3 memory, 1TB SSD.

I have a virtualbox installation of Windows 2008 R2, I am trying to install the Hyper-V role but I am greeted with an error message... " Hyper-V cannot be installed The processor on this computer is not compatible with Hyper-V. To install this role, the processor must have a supported version of hardware-assisted virtualization and that feature must be turned on in the BIOS."

My understanding is that this is definitely possible but requires some changes to settings for the virtualbox guest. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Your understanding is definitely wrong, because you run the Windows inside a VM. No VT-x available in the guest, ergo no Hyper-V. Nested virtualization is not supported.

Moving to Windows guests. This has nothing to do with your host.

At the moment Hyper-V can only run on an OS which is running directly on the hardware, not in a vm.

There is talk of implementing a system in Windows Server 2016 to allow Hyper-V in a guest (under certain conditions) but I expect it will be a Windows OS only solution.
