I am reading through the manual and have problems to understand what the functionality of clone is.
Does a clone run on the same host system without installing the VB SW and the extension pack?
If not, what is the difference to an exported VM?
Thanks for explanations
My host ist Linux Mint 17.3, 64bit
VB 5.0.26 and the related extension pack

No a clone is the guest only. Since clones can transverse various OSes it would be impossible to control the host side software.

Thanks for your reply.
But what is the difference between an exported and a cloned VM?
Export & import I could already do on a different PC. But I don't understand eyt the clones.

Clones are mirror images of the original with the exception of the UUID ane and guest MAC address if you chose to change it at time of clone. Primary use is on the same host to allow two equal versions to test with. Export is just that. To export for use on a different machine/host.

Thanks for your explanation. I got a better understanding now. For me export/import seems to be the right thing to run the same Windows XO VM on several Linux PCs.
Have a nice week!
