Running Windows 7 from its own partition in an Ubunty partition

Post by spflanze »

I intend in my new computer to partition the hard disk into a two partition dual boot configuration. One would have an Ubuntu OS and the other a Windows 7 OS. Could this Windows 7 installation in the Windows 7 partition run in VirtualBox running under Ubuntu in the Ubuntu partition?

Or would it be necessary to install Windows 7 once again inside VirtualBox running under Ubuntu in the Ubuntu partition?

No idea why you would want to do that, but a dual Boot System equates to two physically separated systems (computers), which cannot be operational at the same time. You have to choose each time you log in to a Dual Boot/Multi-Boot which system you want to run, so you would have to physically install any software you want to run on each system; and if you want to run a Windows Virtual Machine within the Ubuntu System then 'Yes', you would have to install VirtualBox on that and then create a Windows Virtual Machine, i.e. a full Windows installation, which will require Activation.

You should also note that you cannot use the same Windows Activation Key in more than on active installation, because each installation will be recognised by Microsoft's Activation System as being installed on a different device.
