Custom keyboard maps

I use a custom keyboard mapping which swaps some punctuation around to make programming easier on my hands, and as a result VirtualBox doesn't know how to handle the keys I've changed. Is there any way to teach VB about my keymap so that I can use those keys at all in a guest OS? I'm perfectly happy to re-remap them in the guest of course if it's a matter of letting VB know that when it receives, for example, a '[' from X it should emulate a hardware "shift+9 pressed".
