Which type of host network interfaces can be used ?

Post by mabra »

Hello !

I usually do not have physical interfaces on my hosts, which are free to share with Virtualbox - they are usually in use with virtual network infrastructure from VDE and/or OpenVswitch. I recently detected, that Virtualbox will crash down the complete host, if used with OpenVswitch ports ( see: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=79446 ).

Linux offers a lot of different interface types, if one issues:

Code: Select all

ip link help
.....
TYPE := { vlan | veth | vcan | dummy | ifb | macvlan | macvtap |
          bridge | bond | ipoib | ip6tnl | ipip | sit | vxlan |
          gre | gretap | ip6gre | ip6gretap | vti | nlmon }
So, my question is: Which type of this interfaces can I use inside a Virtualbox VM ??

Thanks anyway,
Manfred
