Is it possible to use VB with a network shared DVD writer which is not on the host but on a different physical machine?

If this item can be written to from different PCs on your LAN then yes it should work for a guest as well. I would imagine that you would need to be using Bridged mode for the guest though. But if you are asking if the program VB can do this then no because there is no mechanism built in for that.
