No IPv4 address

Post by patapra »

hi,

i have the following "complex" setup:

Code: Select all

Windows 10 running on bare metal, hosting
    Ubuntu 16.04 64-bit running in VMWare Workstation 12.1.1 build-3770994, hosting
      Ubuntu 14.04 32-bit running in Vagrant 1.8.1/VirtualBox 5.0.24_Ubuntu r108355
ubuntu 16.04 is nat'ed with windows 10
ubuntu 14.04 is nat'ed with ubuntu 16.04

ubuntu 14.04 has no network capability (and thus vagrant cannot ssh to it). here is the output of ifconfig -a (notice no ipv4 address):

Code: Select all

eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 08:00:27:51:69:e6
          inet6 addr: fe80::a00:27ff:fe51:69e6/64 Scope:Link
          UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1

          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:240 (240.0 B)  TX bytes: 17516 (17.5 KB)

lo        Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.1  Mask:255.0.0.0
          inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host
          UP LOOPBACK RUNNING  MTU:65536  Metric:1
          RX packets:144 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:144 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0

          RX bytes:10576 (10.5 KB)  TX bytes: 10576 (10.5 KB)
here is the output of vboxmanage showvminfo:

some interesting points:
  • 1. i tried this same setup using virtualbox (instead of vmware) as the virtualization client for ubuntu 16.04. same result.
    2. this setup works if i use ubuntu 14.04 to host the second ubuntu box. this probably points to an issue in ubuntu 16.04, but thought id still run it by you guys to see if we can get it working anyway.
thanks,
matt
