Hi,

I'm using Elementary OS as a virtualbox host, ans a windows 7 as a guest.
My Windows 7 is in 16bits colors, and it 2D acceleration mode is grayed, even after installation of Guest Additions and extensions.

My configuration :
AMD FX 8350
8 Go RAM
GTX970 (with working proprietary drivers, 367.35
Elementary OS Freya (based on Ubuntu 14.04).

How can i resolve this problem ?

Thanks for your response.

Most probably the option is greyed out because the VM is running. You can't change the "hardware" on your "computer" while it's running, right? But even if you shut it down, you can't enable it (you get a warning) because 2D acceleration is available only for Windows guests.

On a separate issue, I'm pretty sure the Win7 guest should not be running in 16 bit color mode. I can't imagine what kind of 2D overlay needs 16 bit colors, or how that could be accelerated when the "native mode" of the host is quite different.

Nobody has used 16 bit color modes since Windows 95, so two decades (and even then it didn't last long). Or did you mean 16 color, i.e. 4 bit color mode? - in which case even longer.

Or maybe 164, 166 or 168 bit color? Those are valid and used all the time...
:D
