[SOLVED] Rescaling Display after Upgrade to Windows 10

Hi,

I successfully upgraded Windows 7 to Windows 10 (Linux host) and it seems every thing works fine.
The only thing that happened is that I can't rescale the display.
It stays on 1024x768 even I have a screen 1920x1080.
When I try to rescale to 1920x1080 nothing happens and it stays checked on 1024x768.

Any ideas?
Thanks

I note that you don't mention reinstalling the Guest Additions. I would.

Also, in the host VM manager try setting File|Preferences|Display|MaxGuestScreenSize to None.

Your're right I didn't re-install it.
And I will modify the preferences as well.
Thanks

In the host VM manager I did set File|Preferences|Display|MaxGuestScreenSize to None
After I installed Guest additions the whole system hangs on the reboot and I had to power off the PC.
I tried several times...
I have another installion of W10 which is not an upgrade. This one works fine..
No idea what happened here

I just redid the whole upgrade process from Window 7 to Windows 10. Host is Fedora 24.
File->References->Display is set to None.
I tried to re-install Windows Guest Additions.
I did re-boot as demanded and it hangs again while starting up.
It hangs always at a different phase of the start-up.
I'd like to keep all my applications and file, but it seems it wont work like that.

Any other ideas or tips?
Thanks

I don't know if I can help you diagnose a Windows startup problem, but at the very least you need to provide a VM log file for diagnostic purposes.

With the VM fully shut down, right click and "Show Log" in the GUI, save "VBox.log" (ONLY) to a zip, and attach the zip here.

Ah, I didn't notice it was a Linux host.

Does the guest work if you disable 3D acceleration?

As far as I remember, the check-box for 3D acceleration was greyed out and I couldn't change it while installing guest additions.
Now since I can't boot the Windows 10, how to disable it now?
And I can't restart the installation of guest additions any more..

You don't need to boot the VM to access the VM settings in VirtualBox, in fact the VM should be shut down (not running, not suspended) every time you do this.

The log says that 3D acceleration is enabled, 2D as well.

Thanks, in the meantime I did find that too. I didn't check within Display.
I turned 3d acceleration off and it works absolutely fine now.
Display is rescaled to 1920x1080.

Thanks a lot for your effort !

BTW. Where to make that thread SOLVED ?

For future reference, you probably have buggy host graphics drivers. I'm afraid it's not uncommon on Linux hosts. You might want to check for new versions, if 3D acceleration matters to you.

It's the generic graphic driver as I don't need special stuff like 3D for gaming and such.
I do not install nvidia drivers as they are often too late when a new version of Fedora will show up.
Anyway the system runs fine now.

But my question too - how to mark this thread to be SOLVED ?
