USB pass through not working on Mint 18.0 / VB 5.0.24_Ubuntu r108355

I have setup a clean Linux Mint 18.0 (package base Ubuntu 16.04) and installed VirtualBox on it from the Mint package repository (version: 5.0.24_Ubuntu r108355). I have also installed the Oracle extension pack (Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-5.0.24-108355.vbox-extpack). Now, in my Windows 7 guest, USB pass through is not working. I can see the USB devices I want to pass through to the VM on the host with 'lsusb', but in the according VirtualBox menu, no USB device shows up that I could pass through to the VM. I have attached the log.

Two issues really.
  • 1) you are using the Ubuntu fork which we do not support.
    2) you have installed the Ubuntu fork extension pack which does not have USB support.
Resolution is to remove that and install the official version with matching extension pack from virtualbox.org

PS also make sure you add your user name to the vboxusers group and reboot.

Thank you for pointing this out.

No, I've got the extension pack from the official page virtualbox.org.

No, that is not the solution. When I install the latest version 5.1.4, the problem persists (no USB devices showing up in Virtualbox). Plus, in addition, the built-in microphone stops working which worked just fine with the 5.0.24 version from Ubuntu.

Did you add your user to the vboxusers group and reboot?

Select the Intel HD audio to see if that fixes your audio issue.

I had added my user account to vboxusers after installing VB 5.0.24_Ubuntu r108355 and rebooted multiple times since then.

For a reason I do not know, after uninstalling VB 5.1.4 (official version) and installing Ubuntu's version of VB 5.0.24 again, USB pass through started to work. So, problem solved. Thank you. :D

- Desinstalar virtualbox-dkms con "sudo apt-get remove --purge virtualbox"
