Auto resize guest display and seamless mode both are disabled (greyed out)

Post by VChris75 »

Host: Fedora 24, clean install.
Guest: Win 8.1, Guest additions installed.

Problem: Size of the guest window is fixed, 1024x768. Auto resize guest display and seamless mode in View menu are both disabled (greyed out)

How to fix this issue???

Post the guests log file ( as an attachment ). Right click on the guest in the Main Manager then click show log. Save and post as an attachment. Compress if it is too large to post.

I've removed Fedora 24, and install Ubuntu 16.04
But the issue is present on Ubuntu as well...
What is the problem???
New motherboard, new CPU, new SSD, new OS, and I am unable to resize VM. It only works in 1024x768 after installing Guest Additions.
I don't understand it, and this is very-very frustrating...
The GPU and DDR3 RAM is the same as in my earlier PC. Could it be the cause of the problem???

I've attached the log file. This is on a fresh new install Ubuntu 16.04 host.

OK, this is my last attempt before I will give it up...
I've remove Ubuntu (because I prefer Fedora, Ubuntu was just a test, see my previous post) I've made a clean Fedora 24 install. I've installed VirtualBox and Extension Pack.

OK, please help me, maybe I make a mistake during installing a VM.

Let's see the steps:
1. I make a fixed sized VDI
2. Configure a new Win8.1 VM. Please, help me, which settings should I use? Should I check PAE/NX? How to configure processor, storage, video, etc???
3. Install OS
4. Install Guest Additons.

Is it correct? Please help me in the question above, in the 2. step.

Thanks,
Regards,
VChris

Code: Select all

00:00:05.853377 VMMDev: Guest Log: VBoxMP::voxWddmVModesInitForTarget: WARNING! :vps(0x57)!=NO_ERROR
00:00:05.853809 VMMDev: Guest Log: VBoxMP::DxgkDdiQueryAdapterInfo: DXGKQAITYPE_QUERYSEGMENT3 treating as unsupported!
As for your question about step 2, you should leave everything set to default and only change the size of the VDI container ( not fixed size ), amount of RAM, number of processors, and enable 3D acceleration. Also you say Windows 8.1 but you have selected Windows 8. There is a difference, so if it really is 8.1 you need to select 8.1

Now for the info from your guest log. It looks like VirtualBox is having an issue with your GPU. You probably will need to raise a ticket at bugtracker

Thank you Perryg, for your help!
I will try get my GPU out of my computer, and use only the motherboard integrated GPU.
And yes, it is really Win 8.1. I will set this option.
Thanks!

I've removed my MSI GPU, and used only my motherboard integrated video card. But the issue is still the same...
I've created the VM setting exactly Win 8.1.
A new log file is attached. Perryg, would you like to take a look at it?
What makes this error??? Everything works like a charm in this machine, but one day it went go wrong... Why? And why is this error happen, when I buy a new motherboard+CPU, and a clean Fedora24 install??? I don't understand it...

I've created a ticket: https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/15788

The error does not show in the latest log file which may be a good thing, but it also looks like 3D and 2D are disabled. Verify that they are enabled in the guest settings. Also it looks like the guest was resumed from a saved state and not a cold boot. Use the guests power down function and not the title bar red x or saved state to power the guest on and off.

As for why this happened I have no idea. I don't use Fedora myself but trying to help you to find the reason the best I can. It has to be something that changed since it worked the last time and for that you would need to find out or another Fedora user that has seen similar issues.

I do know that SELinux plays all kinds of havoc with any package that is not native to the OS but if memory serves me you have disabled that. If not then do so.

Really, Perryg, I realize that you try to help me as you can, and this is very kind from you, so I am thankful for it very much.

I've remove GuestAdditions, turned off the VM. Turned on 2D and 3D acceleration, turned on VM. Install GA again, reboot VM. Didn't solve the problem.
A new log attached.

OK I installed Fedora 24 and then added an XP guest to see if it behaved the same. It works for me as it should. The only exception is I use nVidia, but that should not disable the auto-resize. I don't use seamless but it is still showing as a valid feature.

So I guess it is up to the DEVs now.

OK, but how they can guess what cause the issue, if it is in a particular computer, which is mine???

No they don't guess but they may see something that I am missing. Another thing you could try is to install another guest ( Linux ) and see if it works the same.
