Any way to tell if a vm was created as a clone?

This is for discussing general topics about how to use VirtualBox.

Any way to tell if a vm was created as a clone?

Post by hangerglide »

I have a vm which I can only imagine was created as a clone of another. Both are windows 10 pro. The original would have been a test of the conversion process from windows 7 to windows 10. I don't have any notes re how the second windows 10 vm was created, which is a goof on my part. Nothing critical in this but would still like to know if there is a way to tell if it was created as a clone or not.

Thanks

No, there is nothing remarkable in any way about a clone. That's kinda the point. It's just a copy of the original, but with the UUIDs changed. Perhaps in the right guest OS you might see a log of DMI changes, or if you changed the network adapter MAC.

Moving this topic to "Using VirtualBox" since your Q has no relevance that I can see in "Windows Hosts".

Thanks for the reply. I had guessed that if there was evidence of cloning, it would possibly be found in windows not so much in the clone itself, so I put it in the windows host section. But I'm sure the move makes sense.
