Trying to create Linux VM, getting a bunch of colored ASCII where Ubuntu should be installing

Post by Rand »

I'm new to VBox and am trying to get a Linux environment running from my Windows 7 machine. I've installed VBox and created a Linux/Ubuntu 64-bit VM. I have downloaded ubuntu-16.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso to my hard drive, and pointed the VM install to this file. The machine starts up fine, and I see the Ubuntu startup screen, but at the point where I believe I should be getting setup or install prompts my VM screen turns to this:

Image

The distortion in the outline of the mouse pointer, which briefly appeared as I was moving the mouse around the window. No actual errors are given, but I've attached the log file.

Is there something I'm missing here? I've followed install guides and appeared to be doign everything correctly, up to this point.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Awesome, thanks! I tried searching for a similar issue but the search terms for something like this is pretty broad.

I'm able to get around i by pressing Right Crl+F1 then Right Ctrl+F7.
