Reboot stuck on windows xp guests

Post by winhex »

Hi there! I have some guests with Windows XP SP3 (with all security updates), and I have only one problem with all - reboot (Start button - reboot...) always stuck on reboot screen. And I can only make a reset VM from Virtualbox GUI. This is big problem for me, because VB works on headless mode (but in graphic mode has the problem).

Code: Select all

vboxmanage --version
4.2.32r101581
Host - Debian 7 amd64 with 3.16 kernel
detailed info about one of the VM:

Code: Select all

Ideas must be limited when we don't have a VM log for a relevant session.

After a session which exhibits the problem, first close the VM. With the VM fully shut down, right click it in GUI. Select "Show Log" and save "VBox.log" (ONLY) to a zip file. Attach the zip here.

Are you running the headless and the GUI as the same user?

Archived log in attachment. I hope for your ideas )

No, VB in headless mode running on another PC, but the problem doesn't depend on this.

it does make a difference but you seem to know more so I will not bother you trying to explain.

I think you're right, but I can't run VB in GUI mode on this machine to check it, because she doesn't have X-server )

You have a mismatch between the plugin pack version and that of the host software. Try fixing that, then we'll see where we are.

Your host has many gigs of free RAM. Why such a paltry (and unusual) figure for the VM? Likewise with the graphics RAM. Almost certainly you have been ignoring warnings that the latter is not enough. I would increase RAM to 2048MB, and VRAM to 128MB.
VBox.log wrote: 00:00:00.073828 File system of '/home/vbox/VirtualBox/xppp/Копия xppp-disk1.vmdk' is ext4
What's going on with that pathname? Host filesystem corruption? I would also note that a "-disk1" suffix doesn't encourage me to believe that this is a properly installed and complete VM. It looks like somebody manually unpacked an OVA without really knowing what they were doing.

Oh exactly! It's my mistake. mpack, thx a lot! My problem is solved and now all work like a charm!

Yes, it looks weird ), but I have a lot of VM's to work with a single old banking program. Just this

This is a problem with the Cyrillic names. I'll see what the problem is. Thank you

I wouldn't bother with this if you don't have a problem. I was viewing the log in Notepad++, and I don't have a Cyrillic font installed for that. So that's probably all it was.
