I'm running the latest version of virtual box on the current generation of macbook pro with all os updates.
Cannot get sound working to save my life. This exact same config was working fine on my gen 2 macbook at the same OS level I just replaced. Sound on the macbook itself works fine. It does not work in my Ubuntu Mate 16.04.1 guest.
Not only that, but virtual box crashes all the time... just now I unplugged my headphones from my macbook and it caused virtual box to abort my running ubuntu guest.
Is this not a stable platform?
I need latest virtual box working with unbuntu mate 16.04.1 and working sound. Does this config work? I need to figure this out before my window to return this laptop for a refund ends.

You're shy on the details of your host. Are you running VirtualBox 5.1.2? If so, you may be affected from https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/15659. Try to see if installing VirtualBox 5.0.26 and see if the situation changes.
