Experience with Windows 10 anniversary update?
Hi,
I managed to upgrade my Windows 7 Pro (and Home on another machine) to Windows 10 in time last week.
Now we have the anniversary update and I would like to know if someone have experience from this update.
Good or bad both are interesting to share I think.
Regards
Jan Peter

Are you inviting discussions about Windows itself? If so that discussion would be off topic. This is not a Windows support website, all discussion must relate to VirtualBox.

Re: Experience with Windows 10 anniversary update?
Hi, I am intersted to know whether the anniversary update create some problems for VirtualBox so you we need to wait for an update of VirtualBox. I guess the risk is not that big that there is serious problems, but I would like to hear someone that has done the update and made some elementary checks that the whole thing works before I do.
For those interested in what the Windows 10 anniversary update is like ARS Technica has an article now that is comprehensive.
Best regards

IMHO, you should just do it. It's a virtual machine, so you risk nothing but a little time. If the update fails then you can restore the previous version from a backup. This is after all one of the reasons people use VMs.

A bit early to expect a considered opinion on that. Most people will not have seen it yet.

Re: Experience with Windows 10 anniversary update?
I actually expected developers of virtual box and some others had access to beta versions of Windows 10 anniversary update.
But Microsoft perhaps did not involve external people in beta-testing?
That would call for caution, perhaps more for using Windows 10 anniversary update for host than as guest.

Re: Experience with Windows 10 anniversary update?
The Windows 10 upgrade has certainly been extensively tested both internally and by volunteers through the Insider program. I would guess that some of those would be running VirtualBox and would have reported any problems.
I have been running the Insider builds but have not been running VirtualBox on it. I have upgraded two machines running VirtualBox today and had no problems whatever.

This is a user forum. But, I rather suspect that the devs might have had other priorities than searching for bugs in Windows.janpeter wrote:I actually expected developers of virtual box and some others had access to beta versions of Windows 10 anniversary update.

Moment shared folders do not work, I have not detected more problems.
Re: Experience with Windows 10 anniversary update?
Shared Folders work fine for me, but did have to reinstall Guest Additions after applying the update. This wasn't unexpected as it happens every time Microsoft releases a major OS update of this type as it totally replaces the previous version of the OS.
Re: Experience with Windows 10 anniversary update?
I just installed the anniversary update and now my computer Blue Screens every time I try to start a VM. I do not have Hyper-V installed. I have a co-worker who is having the same problem.

Re: Experience with Windows 10 anniversary update?
You need to come up with rather more details than "my computer Blue Screens". We need the BSOD code, the circumstances, etc. I'd also like confirmation that you are talking about a VM, not your host.
