i have a recovery cd not a boot cd which is different. my old xp bootable didn't work because vbox didn't recognize it ....

Want to install XP and have a valid bootable install disc? Tried to load it in VB but it won't boot properly? Copy the cd to your hard drive (put it all in one separate folder so no other files except the cd files are in that folder), download nLite from www.nliteos.com (be sure to have at least .net framework 2.0 installed) and run your copied XP install through nLite (option: create bootable ISO). Create the ISO file, mount that in VB and you're ready to go. Have fun.

Ps.
nLite will only work with normal install discs, so no recovery ones.
Oh, and nLite only runs on Windows, not in Wine with Mono.
