Hello,

I've upgraded from unbuntu 7.10 with vbox 1.5.6 to ubuntu 8.04 and vbox 1.6.2

when I try to print from my windows xp guest to my hp d1360 I get a blank page. The strange thing is that the guest sees the printer and can interact with it but it just can print anything. Even the test pages comes out blank.
I f I try to print multiple pages one one blank page comes out.

The printer works from within the ubuntu 8.04 without any problems. I can print from linux apps to the printer just fine.

Any ideas or suggestion how this can be fixed? Is their a fix it in the works for the next vbox release?

Is it a network printer or local printer? How do you connect to the printer? Have you selected the USB method (get the USB device in the Guest) or do you share it on the network with Samba? If done with USB, it's likely that the printer doesn't get the data properly. Try to share it through Samba. As I have a Linux Host and Windows Guests, I can print to network printers just fine.

Hi,

It's a local USB printer. The strange thing is that it was working in Vbox 1.5.6 and xubuntu 7.10 so I can't see why it would fail now.

I don't want to use Samba on my host to only allow me to print to the printer. This would add additional load to the host. I would really love to just be able to print like I normally would

The argument about additional load to your Host is based on nothing. Samba does not add any additional load, especially if you bind it to an interface.
As for your printer idea, like I said before, the printer does not get the proper data. As the USB support is changing in every release (stability, additional device support) it's possible that they broke the printer support.

That could be true. It's possible that it's broken but I sure hope they can implement a test plan that will test all the major features of the VM before releasing it.
