Ubuntu 16.04 with headless Virtualbox Bridged Network Problem

Post by pradl »

Following problem:
Currently I am setting up the gateway for the severrack, and I want to virtualize a few services. DNS, DHCP and whatnot.
I created base VM (also Ubuntu Server 16.04). One NIC, a Bridged, connected to my Interface pointing directly outwards.
Firewall on the Host and Guests are also completely turned off for now.
Following problem:

Neither Host nor Guest can talk to each other, and Guest cannot reach the outside network either.

Code: Select all

I cut out the vrde part since that actually works.
Guest has a static IP (192.168.1.11), but cannot reach the gateway at all. Here is the ifconfig for the Host:

Code: Select all

          inet addr:78.104.88.102 Bcast:78.104.88.127 Mask:255.255.255.192

          inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host

I am on this issue for 2 days now and have not really found a solution on the internet either. Any push in the right direction would be appreciated.

I see a couple of things from the information you provided.
  1. you set a static IP address in the 192.168.x.x range which has no way on this setup to communicate with 78.104.#.#.
  2. the bridged interface is listed as 'eno1' but in the ifconfig it is 'no1'. Was that a bad copy/paste?
  3. Is the bridged adapter a wireless one?
Please read Chapter 6.2 Introduction to networking modes, if you haven't done so already.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.

If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

1. Oh yes. The basics of networking have escaped me there! How would I set up a route then to let my Guest communicate with my host?
2. Yep, first letter is just missing.
3. Nope it's wired.
