GA update problems on Bodhi 3.2.0

Post by Suncatcher »

Hi, devs!
I have exactly the same problem as reported here and here, and have it continuously for more than seven GA minor updates so it DOES NOT seems like a guest issue as stated by you.

I have Bodhi 3.2.0 (which corresponds to Ubuntu 14.04), not Mint.

Why would "cannot unload module vboxguest" not be a guest issue? module add/start and remove/stop are controlled by the OS.

Can you actually manually stop the service?

PS: mint at that time was based off Ubuntu and as such would still be the same basically. They are both Debian based.

Are you by chance using the automount feature of VirtualBox shared folders where it creates the /media/*_sf folder?
Post the guests log file ( as an attachment ). Right click on the guest in the Main Manager then click show log. Save and post as an attachment. Compress if it is too large to post.

Interesting. For most this does not cause an issue so somehow you and the few that have reported this must have something unique that most do not. I for one do not use the automount feature for different reasons, but do test it across a lot of Linux builds for support and have never had this issue either. While it is a guest OS issue because it will not release the hold on the module to stop it I believe the cause is probably shared between the OS and VBox. You should post a ticket at bugtracker

I don't use automount, and I do get the above message. Definitely on Ubuntu 12.04 and Mint 17, I don't remember what happens on the rest of the bunch. The thing is that the GAs install fine, so it never really bothered me. It's been happening for a long time now, most probably after the 5.x.x introduction. Will check later and report back...

I wouldn't call it a shame since it causes no problems whatsoever. Cosmetic issue? False alarm? Maybe...
