i've tried as many things as i can so far, but i just cannot get VB to recognise my ipod nano, or any other usb devices. in the VB settings under USB i have USB and USB 2.0 controllers enabled. but when i try to add a USB Device filter a greyed out box opens that says <no available devices> my ipod/usb key/removeable drives are plugged in and are recognised by Ubuntu.
Ubuntu 8.04 VB 1.6.2 Ubuntu-host Windows XP-guest
thanks

I originally had USB working fine with my Vista guest, but reinstalled everything to a larger VDI, and then USB support somehow stopped!
I had enabled usbfs a while ago, but now to get guest USB support, it seems I had to do the commands in kotton's link after the sentence, "If the above doesnt work try rebooting, if that doesnt enable usb you can try this:".
Big booyah to kotton! I don't know what those commands did, but it solved my problem- thanks for posting!
