Driver version mismatch on Ubuntu Hardy

Hi i am new to this but i keep getting this message when i try to run it

virtualbox support driver which is running from a
different version of virtual box. you can correct this by
stopping all running instances and reinstalling
the virtual box
Vbox status code: -1912 (VERR_VM_DRIVER_VERSION_MISMATCH).
so I

sudo get-apt autoremove virtualbox-ose
sudo get-apt autoremove virtualbox
then
and it still says the same thing. What do I do?
By the way im running ubuntu 8.04

Well you should start by reading up the manual on how to install VBox. If you are going to use a vendor packaged version this will be the OSE rather than the PEUL version and this is specific to the kernel version. Ubuntu have recently put out a kernel update so you must use the correct OSE version. For more on this ...

So what kernel version are you running? (uname -r). Have you looked at
http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy/virtualbox-ose. It's based on VBox 5.6 and 2.6.24-16. But ubuntu now has 3 kernel version out (-16, -18 and -19), and 5 different kernel versions (though if you are running workstation, you are almost certainly running the generic kernel). See

The latest Vbox version is 1.6.2 though many VBox users prefer to use 1.5.6 because it has been properly integrated by the various distribution suppliers.
You need to be willing to do a little research and provide useful information to help us to help you. If your only response is "I still haven't gotten anywhere", then you'd better be prepared to go elsewhere, because there is little chance that we can help you.

Ok i got it running then i bumped into the usb prob but i got that to i am sorry it was just the fact of me not reading anything reading anything on how i was supposed to install it again sorry i am a NEWBIE!!!!!!
by the way i like your little quote at the bottom that's what really helped me

So you found out that the OSE does not support USB
. It's in the wiki on the main site, differences between versions.
